Make your garden a welcoming place for Americans who have returned from combat. Empower the magic of plants to lower stress, offer community based, mission-driven, group projects, and help dramatically in the rehabilitation of veterans learning to cope with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and other injuries. Participants will learn about the basic operational and staffing requirements of a farm or garden serving the therapeutic, socialization and training needs of veterans, and will also hear about other opportunities for public gardens to assist the successful re-entry of recently deployed veterans suffering from combat-related injuries. Participants will tour the Veteran Reintegration Program operation and interact with veteran apprentices and program advisors. The workshop includes a presentation on the Chicago Botanic Garden veteran program, handouts, and ample Q & A time.
*This is an offsite workshop which will take place at the Denver Botanic Gardens, Chatfield.
